The Story

This wine made history when it became one of the earliest single-vineyard bottlings of Nebbiolo in Piedmont with the 1967 vintage. Sourced from the GAJA winery's top growing site, San Lorenzo, located just south of the village of Barbaresco in the famed cru Secondine, the wine is made with 95% Nebbiolo grapes and 5% Barbera. Written Notes

Vivid and intense nose with very refine layers of aromas from dark cherries to peppery spiciness, anise, dark chocolate, and violets. Full-bodied, intense red fruit, vivid acidity and subtle tannins forms a harmonious texture on palate with spicy and gently toasty flavours. Long and harmonious finish shows great concentration and a promise that this wine is not at its peak yet but after a decade even two! If served now, decant 5-6 hours in advance and serve at 17-18°C with panfried venison fillet and rosemary sauce. JL 95p (Nov 2022)

Named for the patron saint of Alba’s cathedral, this deep red wine is highly concentrated with an aroma of currant and black cherry and notes of coffee, fine herbs, minerals and exotic spices. The tannins are subtle and refined, leading to a lingering finish.
