Back in 1778, Mont Rose wasn’t covered in world-class vines—it was just a gravelly hillside blanketed in wild, purplish-pink heather. In fact, the blooming hill was so bright it actually served as a natural landmark for sailors navigating upriver toward Bordeaux.

Wine Information
Spring was a bit late due to a quite cold month of April; however, May and June were fine in the whole and the blossoming went well (mid-blossoming June 20th). As there were a lot of grapes on the vine-plants, the crop was quantitative. Heat and sun were present till August 15th, but as it often occurs, a changeable and rainy period succeeded. September lacked sunshine and heat but the maturity of the grapes evolved nicely.

Bordeaux / The year 1979 partly repeated the 1978 vintage with a wet and cool spring, a hot summer, a cool and dry autumn. Dry whites did well this year while reds, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon, struggled to reach full physiological maturity. Once again, Mouton was a disappointment.
