The Story

Grand Siècle is a Prestige Cuvée that is a unique concept, different from the others. It is the only Cuvée de Prestige in Champagne based on the blend of three vintages instead of one. The concept was originally created by Bernard de Nonancourt and launched in 1959 with a blend of 1952, 1953 and 1955. One vintage is chosen for structure, one for finesse and the third for freshness.

The vintage blend of No. 23: 2006, 2004, 2002

Laurent-Perrier is convinced that by pushing the requirement for blending even further, it is possible to recreate the perfect oenological year, one that would put together the ideal balance from its different organoleptic components.

Grand Siècle is not a vintage wine. Each iteration is numbered, much more rarely than vintage years in Champagne. Only 24 iterations have been produced in 65 years compared to the 45 vintages declared for the entire profession over the same period.

Grand-Siècle applies the following four rules:

  • Blending of a selection of 3 exceptional years, chosen from the rare vintages produced by Laurent-Perrier.
  • Blending of a selection of 11 of the 17 existing Grand Crus in Champagne, whose characteristics are specific to the Laurent-Perrier style.
  • A blend made from a base year (the youngest) and 2 additional years in order to reach an ideal balance and to perpetuate this style with each iteration.
  • A blend with a majority of Chardonnay supplemented by Pinot Noir and benefiting from more than 10 years of aging in the Cellars.

These four rules result in a champagne wine with a perfect balance between density, aromatic depth and complexity. It offers exceptional aging potential.

Written Notes

Medium intense yellow green colour. Layered nose with intense floral notes, brioche, lemongrass and roasted coffee. Dry, elegant yet firm palate shows good crispy acidity balanced by intense fruit and broad structure. Long and lingering finish. JL 93p (Oct 2021)

Magnum. 2006, 2004, 2002 blend of grands crus. 55% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir.
Pungent, fumy nose. Big and broad and really quite rich already. Does remind me a bit of the 2006 vintage Laurent-Perrier. Tense, quite rich finish.
