The Story

In 1989, Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud became the proud owners of a small plot of land of 0,6 ha, in the valley of Saint Emilion, between Pavie Macquin and La Clotte. In 1991 they produced and bottled their first vintage. Since then, their estate portfolio has grown with properties in Saint Christophe des Bardes, Saint Sulpice de Faleyrens or Saint Etienne de Lisse.

Vintage 2014

Written Notes

Tasted four times - last time in August 2019. Consistent notes. Very seductive and intense næse of black berries, rich and multi-layered, great acidity and length. Very stylish wine for the property in this vintage.

Dark purple red colour with violet hue. Fragrant nose with elegant flowery notes, mild spices, cold smoke, dark chocolate, backed by dark berries. On the palate elegant, full-bodied with a good aromatic concentration, ripe tannins with youthful character, a wine with good balance.

Having tasted the 2014 Valandraud blind as part of a complete vertical in December, you may ask what is the point in revisiting it a manner of weeks afterwards? Well, Jean-Luc submitted three or four bottles to subsequent tastings, so I feel that I should honor his participation by saying that these vindicated the showing back in December. There remains that exuberance on the nose with layers of blackberry and blueberry, the palate still sumptuous and stocked, full of dense black cherry and cassis fruit. It could have been pushed too far, but it pulls everything back on the finish to retain the detail and freshness you expect.
