The Story

In 1989, Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud became the proud owners of a small plot of land of 0,6 ha, in the valley of Saint Emilion, between Pavie Macquin and La Clotte. In 1991 they produced and bottled their first vintage. Since then, their estate portfolio has grown with properties in Saint Christophe des Bardes, Saint Sulpice de Faleyrens or Saint Etienne de Lisse.

When I visited Bordeaux in early March, Corona was a threat on the horizon and France was more concerned about an air traffic control strike. However, I was traveling to Bordeaux and had the chance to get a first taste of the 2019 vintage. 2019 Valandraud 96-97p
Tasted in November 2021. 90% Merlot, 7% C. Franc and 3% C. Sauvignon. Not a powerhouse but a wine with pure elegance and finesse, velvety texture, refined and sophisticated. Remarkable complexity and long, lush finish.

Ruby. Scented, floral, nuanced, blueberries, detailed and layered, minerals nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, detailed, juicy, some spices, layered and intense, superb balance between the elements, a beauty! 96-98

Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Rich nose with aromatic depth, blackberries and mulberries, juicy plums and sweet elderberries, vanilla, gingerbread spices and fine hints of dark chocolate in the background. On the palate well structured with opulent character, ripe tannins and fine acidity, juicy fruit in the finish. A powerful wine with freshness.
