The Story

Since early years, the production of Belle Epoque has grown year after year. Belle Epoque Rosé was created in 1976. The excellent vintage of Chardonnay in 1993 inspired Hervé Deschamps, cellar master at Perrier-Jouët, to produce a small quantity of Blanc de Blancs:

-“The production is very small-scale – only one per cent of all Belle Epoque champagnes. The grapes are grown almost exclusively in one of our top vineyards in Cramant. Rosé makes up 8 per cent of the sales, and we hope to see that figure grow. Despite the larger volume we now produce, the production is still expensive: high levels of humidity and the way the bottles are piled take their toll on the gilding. The cost of a bottle without any contents is 10 euros!”

A multi-sensorial wine, made up of delicate and complex harmonies: a perfect balance between the character of the generous year and the House style.

Delicious with desserts that combine the fondant with the crunchy, its flavours will express themselves consummately if served between 10 and 12° (the temperature can also be slightly higher if accompanying a meal). If conditions allow, you may keep your Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Rosé 2004 for over ten years.

Wine Information

Perrier-Jouët Blason Rosé is a rosé that defies every cliché, every stereotype. If you want to try something daring, this is the champagne for you – it will go with you all the way. - Severine Frerson,  Maison Perrier-Jouët Cellar Master

Delicate in appearance yet extravagant in taste, Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Rosé unleashes fragrant aromas of white flowers and wild strawberries. Lively and fresh on the palate, with a long, lingering finish, its complex gourmet flavours make it an unusually versatile champagne which lends itself to daring food pairings, both sweet and savoury.

Vintage 2012

2012 was deemed one of the best vintages the Champagne region has ever experienced. After a mild winter, spring frost and hail caused damage to the vineyards. By mid-July, summer had arrived in earnest, with dry heat and ample sunshine to bring grapes to perfect maturity across all crus. The rain returned at the end of September, just as the harvest began. Although marked by difficult weather conditions, 2012 nevertheless produced wine with promise. Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Rosé 2012 is a cuvée characterised by the aromatic richness and freshness of Chardonnay, balanced out by frank, lush Pinot Noir and fruity Meunier grapes.

Written Notes

Belle Époque Rosé 2012: From the much-lauded vintage of 2012, on paper (as they might say if this was a sporting contest) this should be the pick of the range. On paper doesn’t always ring true, but on this occasion both on paper and in the glass had it the winner!

Even paler than the 2013, this was amazingly delicate, even ethereal, and yet with endless generosity. Fragrant, ripe, layered, and complex, there are gentle red fruits, pink grapefruit, florals, citrus, and spices. Exquisite. Perfect balance and a wine that persists for an incredible amount of time. A great future undoubtedly, but it is so glorious now good luck keeping your hands off it. 98.

Ultra-fine and sophisticated enjoyment from the start. When I first met Hervé Deschamp's creation, it was in the middle of the darkest winter. I can imagine this wine being made for a sunset one beautiful early summer evening in May. Romance, flowers, strawberries, oranges and strawberries are what my brain immediately associates with. A wonder of caressing pleasures throughout the body meets the one who throws himself over this sensual champagne experience. Breathtaking silky, soft, complete and harmonious. So soft and seamless that you may be tempted to think that you can not save this delicacy. The aftertaste is already astonishingly long and Cramant is the army commander with its creamy citrus base together with wild strawberries and strawberry dessert in whipped cream.

Light, onion skin rose colour. Complex and refined nose has toasty aromas with apricots. Dry, fresh, supple palate with pure and fresh apricot and strawberry notes. Lingering finish. – JL 93p. (3/2023)
