The Story

Olivier Bernard's extensive project at Domaine de Chevalier has really come to fruition. After a bold and not to mention expensive re-planting program throughout the `80s and then a decade and a half of patience for the vines to gain maturity, we can really see the benefits. 2005, 2008, 2009 and now 2010 rank amongst the very best wines produced in this sprawling commune. Powerful but graceful, true to their terroir, and just so enjoyable to drink; this has become one of our 'must buy' estates. Olivier's wines offer 'super second' class at relatively affordable prices.

Written Notes

2008 white Chevalier is intensely fruity and well-balanced, revealing hints of tropical fruit, citrus, and vine peaches, as well as outstanding freshness and purity. This fine wine is full-bodied, powerful, and concentrated on the palate with a very mineral aftertaste. The acidity provides an excellent counterpoint to the richness, and contributes to a long, remarkably well-balanced aftertaste.

Tasted nine times - last time in September 2011. Consistent notes. Harvest finished on 3rd October (!!), small yield of 27 hl/ha, 3-4 selections in the vineyard, 75% Sauvignon Blanc + 25% Semillon. Very open, incredibly aromatic with lemon and pineapple, incredibly attractive, tasty and smooth, caressing aftertaste. More minerality and more length here. This was magnificent showing!

Pale lemon yellow, tropical, vanilla, lemon, lychee, melon, some honey, layered and intense minerals. Fatter texture and body, and broader nose than the 07, still high and refreshing acidity, mouthwatering minerality, very long finish. Slightly more easy going than the 07, and an exceptional wine, superb length. 95

Young and very tight nose a first with floral, green apple notes. With air it opens up and gets much more intense and layered with almond oil, waxy apple fruit and a very seductive white flower note. Young but great nose. Full bodied but with great grip on the palate with waxy, green apple fruit covererd in acacia honey and flowers. Nice weight on the mid-palate that transforms seemlessly into a very long, fresh and elegant finish laced with flowers and minerality. Splendid white Bordeaux! Drink 2014-2023 94p
