This was a fabulous lunch. Six vintages each of Dom Perignon, Roederer Cristal and Veuve Clicquots Grande Dame followed by 12 Bordeaux from 1986. I preferred Dom P in most vintages. The premier crus are good in 1986 but many others are getting too tannic as the fruit dries up.

This was definitely the most amazing dinner I had the pleasure to attend this year. 30 wines from 1947.
2 bottlings of Pétrus and 5 bottles of Cheval Blanc.

Thank you Robert.
My favorites were Cheval Blanc, Pétrus, Mouton and Margaux.

I had the great pleasure to attend one of the greatest wine dinners of my life. The topic was 1961 Bordeaux- for me the most complete vintage ever. To the 25 best wines of that vintage were 5 other wines served blind - all from the sixties. The dinner was finished with the most impressive Port I ever had - the brilliant 1963 Quinta do Noval Nacional.

I rarely award 100 points to a wine but here I did it for Ausone, Mouton Rothschild, Haut Brion, Margaux, Trotanoy, Lafleur, La Mission Haut Brion, 1968 Martha's Vineyard, 1961 Hermitage La Chapelle and 1963 Quinta do Noval Nacional. Thank you Robert for an unbelievable evening with the nicest of guests, a fantastic dinner at the marvelous Hotel Königshof in Munich. The wine service was, as always, impeccable led by the star sommelier Stephane Thuriot.

1949 was a great vintage that has aged beautifully.

Weil Kiedrich Gräfenberg Auslese 1921 /  (This bottle was offered by Wilhelm Weil, who now has just 7 bottles left in the cellar. The only time in recent years that a bottle of the estate’s 1921 was sold was at a Christie’s auction at Schloss Johannisberg held by Michael Broadbent on November 13th 1999 with a reserve price of 1,000 DM, the hammer price rising to 20,000DM, a price still not rivalled at auction for a single bottle of white wine.) Bright amber gold, quite incredible “burnished” nose, waxy and polished like dark wood, concentration, elegance and maturity meet to form a totally perfect wine, nothing out of place, quite incredible at this age. 100++

I love the Rheingau Gourmet & Wine Festival! Last Saturday I was leading my fourth event during this years festival. This was splendid - 30 vintages Château Margaux from 1945 to 2003. The stars were many - 1947, 1961, 1983, 1985, 1990 and 1996 the best. There were also some nice surprises like 1948, 1960, 1962, 1991 and 1994.
Nexrt on the line is lunch on Friday with 6 vintages each of Dom Perignon, Roederer Cristal and Clicquots Grande Dame to be followed by 12 different 1986 Bordeaux.
Then there will be time for a diet (not too strict, but 6 kilos has to go). All I need to do is to learn to say no to temptation (never my strongest side).

“1907 Heidsieck Gout American
Amazing champagne which has everything a great wine should have. My mother was born in the town of Jönköping, which was also the name of the shipwreck carrying this bottle. A strangely moving experience. 98 pts.
