Vintage 2010

Drought and cool temperatures contribute to optimal ripeness

The sum of summer temperatures in 2010 was close to that of summer 2009 (962°C compared to 982°C), but significantly colder than those of 2005, which totaled 1052°C. Very little precipitation (only 267 mm) from March to August...

Written Notes

This vintage provided clement weather for winegrowers: disease scarcely developed and a combination of sunny days and cool nights helped the development of refined polyphenols. This is a classic vintage, amazingly rich and outstandingly precise. It has a deep black colour, strong, pure aromas and an impressive, subtly expressed tannic structure. This lushness combined with its elegant freshness that comes mainly from the beautiful Cabernet Franc grapes, makes this magnificent vintage a very long-keeping wine.

Harvest: 28th September to 21st October
Blend: 55% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc
Drink: 2030 - 2050

Very deep here, almost black, beefy, nutty and animal notes on the nose, spicy with a touch of alcohol (15%!), inky and tight, good weight here. Fresh and inky, fine tannins. There are lots of quality elements, very long, beef on the finish, great longevity here. There is a tightness of grain here which is reflected in the finish. Hubert prefers this classic style and balance over the more immediately pleasurable 2009. 95-97/100. 2022-2040+. (£5,500 6x1 IB)
