Vintage 2022

Bordeaux 2022 vintage will stay in the memory of the world of wine as the exceptional vintage which kept a lot of surprises. The year started well with bud break at a normal date, so the frost in early April did not too much damage. The flowering started in mid-May and in optimal conditions. Written Notes

Angelus - 60% Merlot + C. Franc. 14.5% alcohol. Fresh, floral with roses, morello cherries, crushed rocks, mineral, elegant, strong backbone, great complexity, and length, sophisticated, multilayered. Great mid-palate and long aftertaste. Stephanie Rivoal-de Bouard, the present director/manager, has transformed this property into incredibly refined and intellectual wine in recent vintages. 98-99p.

Château Angelus 2022 Ruby. Blackberries, anise, dark fruits, a gentler and dare I say more feminine nose, floral notes from a summers breeze, nuanced, you have to look for all the details, they do not come jumping out at you.
Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, superb texture, such finesse and details, bright, energetic, layered, pH 3,65, smooth and velvety, it comes back at you in waves, long finish. Layered, detailed and nuanced. Not the easiest to read, it seems light yet it has enough effortless concentration to hide 14,5% alcohol completely. The gentle giant.

So many beautiful primary fruit aromas. Al dente. Peaches. Very floral. Aromatic. Full-bodied and extremely fine tannins with length and beauty that show incredible depth. Superb brightness and reality. Exciting. Cabernet franc freshness and dynamics come through now, even though the blend is 60% merlot and 40% cabernet franc. 98-99

Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Sophisticated and expressive nose, ripe blackberries, cherries and mulberries, refined toasting, fine minerality. On the palate very elegant displaying energy and tension, fine tannins, sweet fruit, excellent depth and length. A great wine with enormous potential and great freshness. Arguably the best Angélus ever tasted en primeurs.
