Wine Information

Hubert de Bouard has been at Chateau Angelus in St. Emilion for 30 years. You might think by this time he would have seen it all, but that is not the case. According to de Bouard, the 2011 Bordeaux growing season is unprecedented thanks to its unusual weather patterns. With two estates in St, Emilion, Angelus and Bellevue, as well as a busy consulting practice, Hubert has had his hands full of late. However, he still finds time to sum up this...

Vintage 2011

The 2011 vintage is not easy to handle.

Smith Haut Lafitte not only makes great white and red wine from Bordeaux in Pessac Léognan, they are also at the cutting edge of technology. Written Notes

The weather patterns of this vintage were quite unusual and forced the estate’s teams to adapt continuously, while never letting up with grass cover crop management, tilling and early leaf removal and thinning out. These wines start with pure ripe fruit aromas. After a precise attack they display fine, silky, tight-knit tannins and a lovely mouth-filling feel. Very elegant finish.

Harvest: 19th September to 6th October
Blend: 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc
Drink: 2025 - 2040

52% Merlot and 48% Cabernet Franc create the blend, which reached 13.9% alcohol. Deep in color with fresh floral aromas complicated by licorice, plum, boysenberry, coffee, truffle, cocoa and smoke. Round tannins and soft textures leave a plush impression on the palate with corpulent layers of black cherry liqueur and dark chocolate. 93-95 Pts
