The Story

Undeniably, Talbot is one of the most famous Médoc wines. This fine reputation is no doubt due to a mysterious combination of factors, such as the size of its vineyard, nearly one hundred hectares, and the regularity of its wine.  Nearly a century in the same family, the name Talbot is concise and hard-hitting, easy to pronounce in all languages and a part of our history… However, the first thing that makes Talbot popular is the wonderful natu...

History
On the shore of an ocean of vines among its park’s tall trees, one catches sight of Château Talbot in the distance from the plateau of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle.
The estate has a rich history. Its name originates with Connétable Talbot, a famous English warrior, governor of Guyenne, defeated at the battle of Castillon in 1453.
In 1855, at the time of the Médoc and Graves growth classifications ordered by Emperor Napoléon III, ...

Vintage 1947

Where the 1945 represents sophistication, nuance and classic character, the 1947 stands for richness, robustness and succulence. Written Notes

The 1947 Talbot is a vintage that I tasted once before and to be honest it failed to enamour. However this far superior example audaciously dares to put the 1945 in its place. Dark plum, hints of brambly black fruit, lilac and incense soar from the glass, all with wonderful definition. The aromatics are just more “loveable” than the 1945. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, almost pastille-like in terms of purity yet gaining complexity and backbone all the time in the glass. There is plenty of fruit here but it is much more vivacious than the 1945 with hints of black truffle and chai tea on the rounded and long finish. The best mature Talbot that I have tasted. Tasted at the centenary Château Talbot vertical at the property.
