Written Notes

The 1953 Talbot comes from an ex-château magnum, though I have one previous encounter in bottle. The bouquet veers north towards Pauillac on the nose with scents of roasted chestnut and singed leather on the nose, later developing a touch of mint. It is not the most vigorous 1953 that I have met on the nose. The palate is mature with vestiges of red fruit, morels and a pinch of white pepper. As I remarked previously, there is something “quaint” about this Talbot, though it is not in the same league as say, the 1953 Gruaud Larose. Tasted at the Académie du Vin dinner in Bordeaux.
