The Story

To say Château Valandraud has an unusual history is a massive understatement. This unique estate was built completely from scratch, fueled by the sheer passion and grit of its self-taught founder, Jean-Luc Thunevin—a former banker and Saint-Émilion wine merchant—and his wife, Murielle Andraud.

Determined to make wine strictly on their own terms, the couple started small, buying a tiny 0.6-hectare plot in Saint-Émilion’s Fongaban valley. Th...

Wine Information

Despite capricious weather conditions, the 2024 vintage of Château Valandraud stands out for its remarkable quality, the fruit of the resilience and expertise of our viticultural teams. A mild and exceptionally rainy winter, followed by a wet spring, led to intense mildew pressure from April onwards. In response, rigorous interventions were carried out, including de-budding, early leaf-thinning and maintaining grass cover.

Written Notes

Ruby. Vanilla, blackberries, dark fruits, some chocolate notes nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, juicy, dark fruits, blackberries, detailed, vanilla, nuanced, elegant, energetic and long. A gentler Valandraud, but refined!94-96

  • 96p

Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Rich and concentrated nose with aroma reminiscent of ripe plums, black cherries, dark chocolate and a hit of cigar box, fine balmy spices and a whiff of graphite in the background. On the palate well structured and balanced with ripe tannins, rich fruit quoting the nose, quite opulent mouthfeel in a full-bodied direction and excellent length.
