Elegant and attractively perfumed aromas speak of red cherry, rose petal, spice and sandalwood nuances. The detailed and highly energetic medium-bodied flavors possess a sleek, even silky mouth feel before culminating in a lingering and ever-so-mildly austere finale. This well-balanced and understated effort is really quite lovely and should drink reasonably well after only 7 to 8 years of bottle a...

The Story

Charmes-Chambertin is the largest Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin covering 72 acres spread across many growers. Domaine Armand Rousseau owns a total of 3.4 acres in a prime position on the hill, mid-slope with an east/southeast exposure.

Grapes are meticulously sorted as they arrive in the winery. Following a cool maceration lasting 5-7 days the must travels by gravity into barrel where it will stay for the entire vinification process lasti...

Wine Information

Autumn and winter were humid and very mild which allowed the Spring growth to start very early in the vines. The first signs of the vines coming to life are at the beginning of March with the buds starting to develop before the 15th.  At this stage 2014 is one of the earliest years along with 2011 and 2012.  Despite the dry weather since early March, from mid April the bud development is very active.

In May the effects of the dry condi...

Vintage 2014

The 2014 vintage in Burgundy was a very complicated one, although less so than those in 2013, 2012 and 2011, which featured dramatic crop shortages due to shatter, bad fruit sets and hailstorms.

In 2014, there were two problems which resulted in crop loss: hail in the Côte de Beaune, especially inMeursault; and poor flowering in some of the hillside vineyards of Puligny and Meursault.

The winter temperatures were above average with only ...

Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle and in an perfect condition. Colour is ruby red, purple, and looking clear and medium. On the nose it is intense, complex, refined and charming. The taste is fresh, vigor, ripe, fragrant, and dry, low alcohol content, with medium tannin, with drying tannins, and high in acidity, medium-bodied, with perfectly balanced structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has blueberry, cherry, cranberry, pepper, mineral, raspberry and spice flavours. The finish is long, smooth, lingering and spicy. This wine is fine. I paid around 200-500€ a bottle. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years, decant at least 2h before tasting and not a good invest wine. Good value for money. I do recommend.
