The Story

This is the Domaine's only plot that is not located in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. Located on the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, it is a hard calcareoussoil, with a depth of barely 30 cm of soil and big stones which gives it its name. Clos de la Roche has the power and the richness of Morey-Saint Denis. Very expressive wine. Beautiful and elegant complexity.

Vintage 1983

Burgundy: A difficult vintage: hard, tannic red wines and rich, intense whites.

Warm weather only appeared at the end of May to initiate flowering, although it was still relatively cool. Summer started well until the second week of August when the rain arrived. Everyone wants a little Rousseau for their birthday, and we had responsibilities to uphold, so we continued with a 1983 Rousseau Clos de la Roche. It was a perfect bottle from the ’83 vintage with that signature wet leaf, autumnal quality. There was red fruit and citrus freshness with a touch of bouillon. Jetski found it ‘a little dry,’ but he thought it had a ‘nice texture.’ There was a nice smack to its slaty finish (94).
