A generous, broad-shouldered, and opulent iteration born from the sun-drenched, solar 2018 growing season. Utilizing a significant proportion of whole-cluster fermentation to inject freshness, floral lift, and aromatic complexity, Drouhin expertly tamed the rich, solar warmth of the vintage to maintain remarkable balance and poise.
The nose is dark, muscular, and deeply inviting, bursting with ripe black cassis, poached plum, and black cherry liqueur, lifted by high-toned nuances of dried rose petals, dark chocolate, game, and warm clove spice. On the palate, the wine delivers impressive volume and a broad, voluptuous entry. Rich, fine-grained tannins provide a firm, authoritative frame for a plush mid-palate of sweet dark berries and exotic spice, supported by enough underlying acidity to keep the wine focused and energetic. The finish is long, warming, and earthy, leaving lingering traces of licorice, cocoa nib, and crushed stone. A broad, dramatic Richebourg reaching its initial drinking plateau.
