Year 2017- a good vintage for Burgundy

.

BIVB announced a return to normal yields this year after seeing falling yields for a number of years.

The total volume of Burgundy is estimated at 1.5 million hectolitres, over 20 per cent higher than last year (at 1.223 million hectolitres).

In contrast to the vast majority of French regions, Burgundy had a mild winter and an early spring, with great bud break, and a sunny summer.

“This year will be good for a lot of appellations and producers as we have both quality and, for most of them, quantity,” said BIVB. But BIVB also said that the “exception was in Chablis,” where some producers saw a 20 per cent reduction in yields, and Châtillonnais and Mâconnais suffered some spring frost.
