Written Notes

Stephanie Rivoal de Bouard, CEO of Angelus since 2012, has transformed this property into a refined and intellectual wine in recent vintages by increasing the amount of Cabernet Franc and using considerably less oak. Benjamin Laforet, the young winemaker since 2017, does a great job at Angelus. The wine is 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. On the nose, there are intense morello cherries and raspberries, while on the palate, it's elegant and plush, with a strong backbone, great complexity, sophisticated touch, and finesse. It has a great mid-palate and long aftertaste. This is stupendous quality. 98p.

Style aérien, sans faiblesse dans son déroulé en bouche, avec un fruit plein de vitalité et des notes de fleurs et de poivre. Grande pureté. Le cabernet franc dans
l’assemblage (40 %) sublime le cœur et la fin de bouche.

  • 97p

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Finely spiced black cherries, blackberries, a hint of fine oak, light floral nuances, candied orange zest. Complex, juicy, elegant with fine tannins, good freshness, pronounced fruit in the finish, mineral and long-lasting, a taut food wine full of finesse with good ageing potential. Opens a new, delicious chapter for Angelus in terms of style.

Scented, floral, blackberries, detailed, nuanced, bright, lovely nose, detailed, elegant.
Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, detailed, red fruits, nuanced, layered, bright, elegant texture, minerals, lovely balance, superb. Very refined and pixelated Angelus. 96-98

Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Noble and multi-layered nose with sophisticated fruit, ripe blackberries, black cherries and mulberries, complemented by fine floral hints reminiscent of peony and violet. A very energetic palate with excellent fruit yet rather in a refined and subtle style, very subtle oak, elegant minerality and fine floral hints in the finish. A wine with finesse and wonderful tension.

  • 98p

The transparency of fruit and the finesse is really something here. There’s depth and beauty to the pristine, fresh fruit. Full-bodied and muscular with wonderful tannins that provide tension and form. Subtle and weightless, this is a thought-provoking young wine. 60% merlot and 40% cabernet franc. 97-98
