The Story

The call of faraway lands. As mysterious and intriguing as a lone adventurer returning from a solitary sail, Cos d’Estournel is slow to reveal itself. Little by little, it evokes stories of distant places, market stalls brimming with unfamiliar fruits, spices and wares, village festivities warmed by the joy of revelers and the setting sun, and sumptuous visions of ladies and their voluptuous curves. A myriad of scents, colors and tastes appeal...

Wine Information

An exceptional year, average quantity.

Excellent brilliance, very intense colour, still very red, with the edge slightly amber coloured. Rich, very delicate aromas which disappear on aeration because of slight evaporation, exuberant with plum and vintage cognac. Intense tannin appearing progressively and remaining full and stout. Written Notes

The second bottle was not as perfumed; ironically, its color was younger even though it was from the same batch. The nose was a bit more closed, purpler and danker, although Gil was in its camp at first. I thought it was shy, and perhaps a hint off (90?). If winos were football players, the above is what we would call, ‘Any Given Sunday.’

Tasted in November 2002. This wine displayed very ripe fruit with aromas of chocolate and cocoa. A bit tart on the palate but balance didn't suffer much. Quite elegant. A wine with fine confidence.
