The Story

The call of faraway lands. As mysterious and intriguing as a lone adventurer returning from a solitary sail, Cos d’Estournel is slow to reveal itself. Little by little, it evokes stories of distant places, market stalls brimming with unfamiliar fruits, spices and wares, village festivities warmed by the joy of revelers and the setting sun, and sumptuous visions of ladies and their voluptuous curves. A myriad of scents, colors and tastes appeal...

Vintage 2015

Full report of Bordeaux 2015 by Andrew Caillard MW “Next in line in a great series of vintages; 2000, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2015.

2015 is a wonderful Bordeaux vintage without the hype or hysteria associated with 2009 and 2010. The wines are generally expressive and generous with wonderful concentration and structure. Given another year in barrel, the wines should gain more complexity and fruit volume. Châteaux, in all sub-regions, are e...

Written Notes

Very aromatic on the nose with fully ripe blackcurrants, creamy and luscious on the palate with fat and ripe tannin. Juicy and lively. A considerable amount of oak was kept quiet by plenty of flashy fruit. Great complexity, splendid structure and a long meaty finish. This wine will surely gain even more complexity in the coming years—mesmerizing wine.

Ruby. Scented, blueberries, blackberries and cassis, fruit driven nose, touch of minerals. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, dark berries, spices, fairly nuanced, elegant structure and expression, long. 13,4% alcohol in Cos this year. 93-95

Dark purple red with violet hue and black core. Expressive nose with ripe fruit, ripe plums, black cherries and hints roasted coffee, vanilla and dark chocolate. Almost smoky character in the background. On the palate well structured, rich fruit with juicy character, ripe tannins with good density, excellent length.

Deep colour. Dark berry cassis, pastille like aromas with herb garden ginger spice notes. Fresh supple inky wine with cassis fruit, fine muscular but precise tannins. Finishes firm but the fruit has outstanding persistency. Al dente finish. Lovely precision, muscular drive and mineral length. 13.4 alcohol 96 points

Cos D’Estournel Saint Estephe - 75% Cabernet Sauvignon 23% Merlot 2% Cabernet Franc - 13.4% Alcohol Quite deep colour, Lovely aromatics here, exotic, almonds, spicy, impressive and elegant, lovely fine palate, silky, almost Burgundian style, lighter in colour than some, less extracted, just easy and graceful wine- making, soft and generous, lovely purity, feminine. I like this, it is lighter than you might expect from this chateau, but it seems the nature of the vintage has been well respected. 93-96/100 2026-2045
