The Story

The call of faraway lands. As mysterious and intriguing as a lone adventurer returning from a solitary sail, Cos d’Estournel is slow to reveal itself. Little by little, it evokes stories of distant places, market stalls brimming with unfamiliar fruits, spices and wares, village festivities warmed by the joy of revelers and the setting sun, and sumptuous visions of ladies and their voluptuous curves. A myriad of scents, colors and tastes appeal...

Vintage 2013

BORDEAUX 2013 VINTAGE REPORT

The 2013 vintage in Bordeaux was one of the most difficult since 1965 and 1968. Thomas Duroux of Château Palmer describes it as “the most complicated vintage in 20 years”. Tasted in April 2014. This wine was made in modern style but I couldn't find any over extraction in it. Aromatic and tasty cherries on the nose and palate, mineral with fine acidity, long meaty aftertaste. Really nice effort for the vintage and clever winemaking.

Ruby. Vanilla, spices, raspberries and some plums nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, rounded, refreshing, almost brilliant fruit, slightly tight and dry finish, long. Lovely wine and hopefully a new direction under Almeric de Gironde takes Cos away from those Napa wines made here recently, impressive, yes, in a way, but is it Bordeaux? 12,7% alcohol. 90-92

Dark purple red with violet hue and almost black core. Very spicy start backed by blackberries and prunes, milds spices, gingerbread and dark chocolate. On the palate well balanced with good mouthfeel and length, juicy fruit and balanced tannins.
