The Story

The result of rigorous selection at each stage of production, in both the vineyard and the winery, this great, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon wine is typical of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Structured and tannic but with all the elegance and refinement of a Grand Cru Classé, with time it develops a delicate and complex bouquet.

The wines have considerable ageing potential and are exceptionally long-lived. Certain vintages (1921, 1929, 1...

Château Montrose 2000: Main characteristics of the vintage
In 1999, after a very cold November, December turned out to be exceptionally mild and rainy. January was cold and very dry, entailing a good vernalization. The following months were mild and not too rainy. The bud burst occurred between March 15th and 20th. Spring was hot and moderately humid, the vine grew quickly, and the risks of diseases were high, compelling us to be vigilant. Th...

Vintage 2000

Weather conditions / The 2000 vintage was proclaimed from the start as one of the best vintages of modern times. In the spring of 2003, I had many opportunities to find out if we really had a true dream vintage on our hands.

During the 2000 harvest, while doing a “personal inspection” in the vineyards, I noticed that something extraordinary was on the way. The grapes looked extremely healthy.

While the sorting table was rolling, I observ...

Written Notes

A seriously good Bordeaux, on the firm side but lacking any of the problems that may, or may not – depending on your point of view, afflict the 1990. Has the complexity one would wish. Supple, balanced and lingering. Plenty of grip. As one would expect with a top Montrose, seemingly has an eternity before it.

Dense and nearly dark in colour.
The nose is complex. Still shut, it offers aromas of tobacco, black fruits, and morello cherries. Long and full on the palate with aromas of morello cherries, blackcurrant, liquorice. Gorgeous wine, full, and potent.
Melted tannins with a beautiful velvety texture. A powerful and lingering finish.

Tasted four times - last time in December 2016. Consistent notes. Extremely complex on the nose with overwhelming aromas of blueberries, rich, deep, long and wonderfully structured on the palate. A fantastic tribute to the vintage.
