The Story

Undeniably, Talbot is one of the most famous Médoc wines. This fine reputation is no doubt due to a mysterious combination of factors, such as the size of its vineyard, nearly one hundred hectares, and the regularity of its wine.  Nearly a century in the same family, the name Talbot is concise and hard-hitting, easy to pronounce in all languages and a part of our history… However, the first thing that makes Talbot popular is the wonderful natu...

Wine Information

Harvesting is performed by hand, with no fewer than 180 cutters. This step, crucial in the making of a great wine, is subject to numerous selective sortings. Initial grape selection is performed on the plant, the second when the grapes arrive at the vat house; eight to ten persons on either side of a seven-meter sorting table eliminate grapes not meeting optimal maturity standards. This precision work conserves the grapes’ and the terroir’s mo...

Vintage 2000

Weather conditions / The 2000 vintage was proclaimed from the start as one of the best vintages of modern times. In the spring of 2003, I had many opportunities to find out if we really had a true dream vintage on our hands.

Written Notes

The 2000 Talbot is served in one of 1,000 “Sylvain Dubuisson” bottles, whereby the bottle is housed in a vessel that filters the wine. Deep in colour, it has a Burgundian bouquet with pastille-like raspberry and cranberry fruit laced with tobacco and cedar. With time in the glass it becomes more floral in style. The palate is medium-bodied and softer in texture than other millennial Left Bank wines. Dorset plum intermingles with boysenberry with a touch of vanilla, though it feels quite backward on the finish (redeemed by appealing smoothness.) Good length here and fine potential. Tasted at the centenary Château Talbot vertical at the property.

Bright ruby, garnet rim. Cassis, leather and anise. Starting maturity and surprisingly easy to enjoy already. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, elegant fruit and long.
