The Hill of Corton lies in the midst of a cluster of famous wine-growing villages - Ladoix- Serrigny, Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Savigny-lès-Beaune - with, to the north, the southern end of the Côte de Nuits where vineyards mingle with stone quarries (Comblanchien limestone). Medium red. Captivating high notes of strawberry, raspberry, white pepper and pungent oak spices. Juicy, intense and soil-driven, with complex saline soil tones to the flavors of redcurrant, spices and pepper. Finishes long and salty, with very good lift. Aubert de Villaine told me he preferred both the 2011 and 2009 versions of this wine.

Bit closed nose shows still a plethora of aromas – Asian spices, leather, bit wild, floral, nutmeg. Medium-bodied palate shows vivid yet gentle acidity, refined silky tannins and delicate flavours. A feminine wine with power and persistence. Great with panfried duck fillet served with spinach and cranberry sauce.

Bright ruby red with darker streaks. Dark and dense aromas of blackberry, smoke and tar hits you directly, the nose then evolves into a brighter scale of ripe red fruits, cherry candy, dried roses and a generous dose of oak. The palate is firmly structured, just ripe tannins and vivid acidity, all balanced out by dark red fruits, oriental spices, black tea, blackened toast, undergrowth, and an intense presence of oak.

A very ripe yet fresh nose of dark berry fruit, violets and plum enjoy added breadth from the presence of spice, earth and distinct sauvage nuances. This sauvage aspect also characterizes the remarkably rich and full-bodied flavors that possess a velvety texture from the copious amounts of dry extract. The supporting structure possesses a high degree of phenolic maturity and outstanding length on the ever-so-slightly warm finish. This is relatively fine, at least within the context of the typical robust and chewy style of a classic Corton.
