1929 Les Gaudichots: (“1929 is a sublime vintage and along with 1999, is perhaps the greatest vintage we have ever made. If the wines have been well stored, they are still young and should continue to last for years.” Aubert de Villaine; Meadows: 1929 is undoubtedly one of the century’s greatest vintages, ranking toe-to-toe with 1915, 1923, 1949 and 1959 though at this level of perfection, it seems a bit silly to try and rank one vintage over ...

The Story

Well-cared for vines, strictly controlled yields and as late as possible harvest produces an aromatic and opulent wine. Deeply coloured, La Tâche develops a palate of extraordinary aromas of dark fruits, truffle and spices.

Written Notes

Next, a bottle not from the famed cache from the Doris Duke cellar. The nose was ‘like whoa’ – thick, gamy, nutty; it was so sweet, rich and heavy in its aroma profile. Long and with nice texture, round and with great spine, this bottle was definitely reconditioned, a fresh Nicolas bottle reconditioned in 1985 before they sold off the last of their inventory. There was an abundance of plum and cherry cola flavors, and its acidity was rippling with loads of minerals on its finish. Big Boy had it in 98-99 point territory, but I had it (96+), finding it a touch youthful for that zip code.
