Written Notes

This 1943 had this lime and the coconut thing happening at first but settled down to more classic nut, brown sugar and that kiss of sherry maturity that was still just right. Great tobacco, citrus and earth flavors rounded out this rare and righteous RC

The 1943 vintage was best wartime vintage in Burgundy. The complete season was ideal. Fine weather – sun and rain at the right moment. Only bad news came when the crop size were reduced by hail in July. Great vintage! Wines which were not kept too long in cask, because of the shortage of labour, bottles and corks, are still marvellous and alive, like this wonderful Romanée-Conti. Very good-looking bottle. Recorked at the Domaine in 1967. A level was 4 cm. Decanted only 25 minutes. Very open, fat, ripe, sweet and faintly overstated bouquet. Fragrant and classy. Perfume was so mind boggling with so many exotic aromas, that an amazingly powerful scent hung around empty glass hours. On the palate, it was incredibly nuanced and layered, fragile and sensitive wine with wonderful, wonderful balance. Very gentle and long, lingering aftertaste. Aristocratic wine.
