Written Notes

Great looking bottle, 3 cm level. Decanted 45 minutes. Splendid colour. Mature but still vigorous nose. Very round, spicy, and elegant bouquet. Normally 1961 burgundies lack the depth and structure. In this case, however, the wine has a lot of depth and richness. Very ripe, sweet and voluptuous wine. A bit short and slightly edgy finish. Not a great wine but very good indeed.

D 30 min / G 1 h Moderately intense, brick red colour. Stunningly intense and deep nose with dark berries, licorice, earthiness, truffles and tobacco. Medium-bodied palate with great vividity formed by acidity, herbaceous flavours, red fruits and anised aromas. A good bottle but not a great one. Wine showed less complexity than expected and highlighted by a drying finish. This bottle was supposed to be enjoyed a decade earlier and I strongly encourage anyone who has this wine at the cellar do not wait, enjoy it now!
