A recent tasting explored an impressive selection of Comtes de Champagne vintages spanning more than five decades, offering a fascinating perspective on how the cuvée evolves over time.
The oldest wines revealed the remarkable longevity of great Blanc de Blancs Champagne. Bottles such as 1959 and 1961showed deep complexity, with layers of honeyed citrus, brioche, roasted almond and dried fruit, while still retaining a surprising freshness on the palate. Vintages from the late 1960s and early 1970s displayed beautifully mature character, combining nutty richness with elegant structure.
Among the later wines, 1988 stood out as one of the most classic and precise expressions of Comtes, reflecting the cool, structured nature of the vintage.
