The Story

The wines of La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou come from the vineyard of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. This exceptional Médoc terroir is situated between the Gironde River to the east, the centre and the west of the Saint-Julien appellation. The estate owes its name to its “beautiful pebbles” ("beaux cailloux", in French) which, because of their high quartz content, make for soils that are poor in plant nutrients.

It is precisely this “agrological” ...

Written Notes

Deep ruby with beguiling nose combining impressively pure black fruit, cassis, bramble, and cherries, with nuances of cocoa bean, cardamon and clove, and a touch of crushed gravel. The palate is full-bodied and finely balanced with a firm core of polished, very pliant tannins, perfectly defined black fruits, and pitch perfect acidity. The finish is nuanced, highly perfumed, and persistent. An aristocratic silhouette.

Deep crimson. Intense blackcurrant, praline, espresso vanilla aromas. Smooth dark berry fruits, fine velvetine tannins and savoury/ vanilla oak notes. Finishes chewy/cedar firm. Very good depth and vigour with bittersweet notes. 64% cabernet sauvignon, 32% merlot, 4% petit verdot. 12 months in 60% new French oak. 12.5% alc

Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Quite powerful yet closed nose, slowly opening up displaying an aroma reminiscent of dark berries, hints of blackcurrants, elegant and mild spices, refined toasting, hints of beetroot in the background. On the palate well structured with great tension, elegant with excellent persistence. A wine with true depth and length.
