Château d’Yquem’s first harvest took place three hundred years earlier, in 1593, when Jacques de Sauvage purchased the estate from the crown. A vintage that is often described as too tannic and harsh, and in many cases this is true. There are however a number of wines that have been very attractive and charming in recent times, I was particularly impressed by Mouton and Latour. It shows that the harsh tannic wines of Bordeaux will often come if one only has the patience to wait.
