The Story

The pleasure derived from tasting Yquem is difficult to describe.

It offers a myriad of well-balanced, complex flavours that generate even more harmonies over time. The impression that remains is reminiscent of a quote from Frédéric Dard "the silence that follows a piece by Mozart, in which the listener remains suffused with the music". This reflects the fact that Château d'Yquem stays on the palate for a remarkable long time, providing a u...

Wine Information

A very cold winter and rainy spring were followed by persistent drought conditions (only one day of rain between the 15th of September and the 1st of November). A small crop despite a harvest begun on the 5th of October. In an unexpected turn of events, noble rot finally appeared. Vintage 1985

Bordeaux 1985/ An extraordinary vintage. Particularly elegant in their early years, these wines are now mellow and suave with considerable finesse. The Médoc wines, supple with mellow tannins, are deliciously soft and fruity. The Pomerols and Saint Emilions possess a marvellous combination of concentration and finesse. The dry white wines are rich and complex. The sweet wines are ample, honeyed and fruity.

Straw yellow. This wine tasted light, but had quite well developed botrytis, was quite luscious, harmonious and with nice aftertaste. On the palate, there was honey with touch of citron. Already nice to drink, but it can be enjoyed for additional 7-10 years.

Moderately intense, qolden amber colour. Medium-intense, waxy nose with hints of honeyed and sugared twist. Medium-sweet palate with vivid acidity and intense jammed maremelade finish. Long and intense vanilla finish.
