Wine Information

DOMAINE JACQUES SELOSSE In 1949 Jacques Selosse, Anselme's father, created in Avize the domain, which still bears his name, with his wife.

Anselme took over the estate in 1974.

Domaine Jacques Selosse produces 57,000 bottles of Champagne every year from grapes grown and harvested on 7.5 ha of vines spread over Chardonnay plots in the Côte des Blancs — Avize, Cramant, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger — and a few Montagne de Reims plots, dedicated to growing Pinot Noir, in Aÿ, Ambonnay and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ.

Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle and in an perfect condition. Colour is yellow, and looking clear and medium. On the nose it is fresh and complex. The taste is perfumed, fresh, fruity, voluptuous, and dry, warming, and high in acidity, with perfectly balanced structure and developing. On the palate it is layered and has bread, buttery, citrus, chocolate, apricot and floral flavours. This wine is impressive. I paid around 100-200€ a bottle. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years. Good value for money. I do recommend.

The NV Extra Brut Initial is remarkably open for this wine, with a bit more tropical character than is often the case. Apricot, butter, ash, graphite and passion fruit give this year’s edition of Initial a distinctly overt, almost flamboyant character. The wine is very, very pretty, but more giving than it typically is at this stage. This release is a blend of vintages 2011, 2010 and 2009. Disgorged July 24, 2017. Dosage is 2 grams per liter.
