The Story

Classed as a Premier Cru in 1855, it is made from grapes selected from the finest terroirs of the property. This wine is hand crafted at every stage of its elaboration and reveals remarkable finesse and complexity and a golden colour reminiscent of the sun that made it possible. With age the bright gold evolves to a dark amber colour.
With an extensive life-span, it powerfully and harmoniously combines fruit and floral aromas with roasted and candied notes.

Its superlative elegance comes from a match of total opposites: a voluptuous texture, mineral freshness and the heat of spices. Château Suduiraut is designed for all those who enjoy sensory and emotional experiences that are both rich and full of surprises and leave a lasting memory.

Wine Information

Blend: 90% Sémillon, 10% Sauvignon Blanc

Residual sugar: 150 g/l

Vintage character: This is a straightforward but also opulent Suduiraut with a very pure fruit-based character, perfectly integrated sweetness and a superb finish rounded off by a fine acidity. The attack is both rich and fresh. On the palate the sweetness is expressed by notes of candied citrus followed by woody notes and liquorice, highlighting the mellow finish redolent of fruit. The product of a very sunny year, 2009 has great potential in keeping with the superb Sauternes wines of 1959, 1989, 2001 and 2005

Vuosikerta 2009

Much like 1947, 1961 and 2005, 2009 is a year of almost overly (for Bordeaux) flamboyant and opulent wines with high maturity and low acidity. The tannins are exceptionally ripe, while the wines are quite voluptuous in style. The Left Bank recorded more hours of sunshine than legendary vintages such as 1947 and 1982, and the grapes had higher sugar concentrations than in 2003 and 2005. The key was significant diurnal temperature variations that allowed the grapes to withstand hot daytime temperatures. An exceptional vintage on all levels.

The nose is amazing and almost effervescent as the aromas fly out of the glass.  In the mouth is a core of butterscotch flavors, ripe pineapples, and sweet cream.  This racy wine is already, impressively complex.  Why not drink it now?  ****(*) Now – 2036.

Château Suduiraut 2009 is a precise yet opulent Suduiraut with the purest of fruit, perfectly-integrated sweetness and a long finish revealing a beautiful acidity. The attack is rich and crisp at the same time. The palate reveals candied citrus flavours, followed by wood and liquorice, leading through perfectly into a smooth, fruity finish. In this very sunny vintage, we can sense very great potential, with 2009 following in the footsteps of the truly great Sauternes, such as 1959, 1989, 2001 and 2005.

THE 2009 VINTAGE’S CONDITIONS

The 2009 vintage started with a rainier winter than in the previous year. The spring also saw several rainy spells, forcing us to keep a watchful eye to make sure the grapes were protected against disease.

Flowering enjoyed sunny conditions, however, and the summer that followed, with periods of great heat interspersed with some storms (welcome because they brought no hailstones in our area), helped us to catch up the ten-day delay in the vine cycle.

The particularly hot, sunny month of August speeded up the ripening process, producing ripe healthy grapes with a lovely golden tint before the arrival of Botrytis. The first grapes began to shrivel as early as September, in hot, sunny conditions, and these were picked in the first ‘trie’.

Then came a few days of rain (19 and 20 September) allowing Botrytis to settle in, which it did slowly and very regularly. With the arrival of an east wind in early October, concentration started and the harvest of very concentrated grapes was brought in very quickly and in large quantities, which is rather unusual. Harvesting started on 17 September and came to an end on 20 October, with a total of three ‘tries’.

Colour is gold and medium. On the nose it is open, intense, youthful, wide, complex, refined, ripe, seductive and rich. The taste is fresh, full, toasty, refined, harmonious, rich, and sweet, and average in acidity, full-bodied, with perfectly balanced, well-structured, well-integrated and concentrated structure. On the palate it is layered and has apricot, vanilla, spice, tropical fruits, honey, white fruits, floral, caramel, chocolate, citrus, perfumed and toasty flavours. The finish is long, extensive, lingering, spicy and vibrant. This wine is sophisticated, impressive and superb. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 20-30 years and decant at least 1h before tasting.
