The Story

Classed as a Premier Cru in 1855, it is made from grapes selected from the finest terroirs of the property. This wine is hand crafted at every stage of its elaboration and reveals remarkable finesse and complexity and a golden colour reminiscent of the sun that made it possible. With age the bright gold evolves to a dark amber colour.
With an extensive life-span, it powerfully and harmoniously combines fruit and floral aromas with roasted and candied notes.

Its superlative elegance comes from a match of total opposites: a voluptuous texture, mineral freshness and the heat of spices. Château Suduiraut is designed for all those who enjoy sensory and emotional experiences that are both rich and full of surprises and leave a lasting memory.

Wine Information

Today Château Suduiraut has vineyards that spread out over a 92-hectare area in Preignac and Sauternes. The soil is dominated by gravel and a mix of clay and sand. According to Montégut, Preignac’s soil gives the wines their high acidity and mineral content and also a unique mint-like aroma. The Sauternes regions, on the other hand, contain more clay, in turn guaranteeing the wines’ rich colour and magnificent structure. In the vineyards, almost only Sémillon is cultivated, with Sauvignon Blanc forming only 10 per cent of the blend. The annual production of some 100,000 bottles is divided into three different wines: the lusciously rich and concentrated Château Suduiraut, the lighter, sweet and mineral Castelnau de Suduiraut, and a crisp, dry white wine called “S” de Suduiraut.

Written Notes

Château Suduiraut 2004 comes draped in all its golden yellow colour with its characteristic green flashes. The expressive nose is initially fruity (apricot, yellow peach and pineapple) before taking on more floral notes with honey and spices (vanilla). The deliciously smooth initial taste repeats the fruitiness of the nose before blossoming into its full richness underpinned by the spicy taste of the wood. The excellent acidity of the finish offsets the richness and adds length. The finesse of the wine is enhanced by the remarkable lingering taste of candied citrus fruit with a faintly mineral touch.

THE 2004 VINTAGE’S CONDITIONS

It was a difficult year for the Sauternes and especially for Suduiraut. A high number of pickers and picking operations was necessary to bring in the harvest in good condition. Extremely low yield: only 5 Hl/hectare!

The harvest began in September 29. A total of 4 picking operations. Picking ended on November 4, later than in the other vineyards.

95% Semillon, 5% Sauvignon Blanc. 134g/l RS, 13.8% alc, 5 hl/ha, 16 months in 50% new oak. Very severe selection, 2000 doz made. ¾ of grapes left on the ground. Fine purity of candied orange peel and barley sugar on the nose. Certainly concentrated but without the delicious flavours and complexity of the 2005. A commendable result in a very challenging vintage. Drink 2010 - 2020

Golden. The pure nose of the vintage, very fresh and fruitdriven. Apricots, vanilla and pineapple. Fresh acidity, lively, elegant, balanced, not too intense or rich. 04 is not for the cellar, should be enjoyed over the next five years or so. Long.
