The Story

A perfect illustration of Maison Henriot’s mastery of the assemblage, this cuvee is composed in equal parts of pinot noir and chardonnay, conferring elegance on its complex structure. Produced with respect for family tradition, this cuvee - which comes exclusively from Champagne’s Grands Crus - is made only in exceptional years.

Vintage 1989

Champagne: A warm vintage, where simply charming wines were produced. However, there was not enough heat throughout the year. Spring frosts killed some of the shoots, reducing the harvest by 20%. Written Notes

Tasted newly disgorged before the wine had gone onto the market. That's why it was not so strange to detect a slightly restrained, unevolved characteristic about this—in all other ways—classic, house-typical Champagne. Vanilla, peach, lemon, rolls, bread, and mineral clothed in a fat, balanced exterior. Beautiful and developable. Highly reminiscent of Henriot's delightful '76s.

Henriot Cuvée Enchanteleurs 1989 Magnum deg. 2011 Open nose that really delivers from start with lots of roasted and toasty notes with tropical fruits in the background as well as lemon oil, yellow apples and mineral notes. It more or less stays the same for a couple of hours and lacks a bit of depth. Full bodied, rich and quite heavy palate that is bursting with roasted and toasty notes. Smooth but a bit hollow mid-palate that lacks a bit of fruit and grip and falls a bit short on the finish which offers an agreeable amount of minerality. Developed and, albeit a bit odd vintage Champagne today. Drink now 91
