On the eye — A beautiful pink colour with a few orange highlights. Fine and regular effervescence.

On the nose — The mineral notes on the nose reveal discreet aromas of red berry fruit and redcurrant jelly,
finishing on a dominant strawberry note.

On the palate — The attack is fresh and elegant. The wine is delicious and generous, with an aromatic complexity of red fruit (stewed strawberries and raspberries) and lovely ripeness. On the palate, the finish is long and delicate.

Dosage: lower than 11g/L.

The Story

More than any other, Rosé Champagne is a wine of great emotion: by virtue of its unique blend, and its distinctive colour, which seems to encapsulate joy itself. We are captivated by its immediate charm before delving into its hidden depths.

Laurent Fresnet refers to it as a principle rather than a provocation. ‘‘For Henriot, the colour is not important in the creation of rosé
wine, while well-balanced organoleptic structure is essential.’’
While red wine accounts for less than 10% of the blend, it is nevertheless essential; it takes exceptionally ripe pinot noir grapes to express the essence and exquisite succulence of the fruit. It is the
role of this red wine to reveal this red and black berry fruit dimension.

Wine Information

Rosé Millésimé 2005 is a well-structured cuvée with lovely concentrated aromas of ripe red fruit. Typical of the vintage, it will be ideal for aperitif as well as with fruit desserts.

THE 2005 VINTAGE
The year began with a harsh winter without much rain, favorable conditions for the resting and regeneration of the vine. The spring was mild allowing the buds to develop well and flowering occurred as usual in June. In early summer, the rain became heavier, leading to botrytis and mildew which slightly retarded the vines’ development but the bunches of grapes formed and gradually ripened until the end of August. At the beginning of September, in spite of heavy rain, the situation looked promising with the hope of a high quality, generous harvest. Picking began on the 9th September in cool, dry, sunny weather with healthy grapes and optimal maturity, the conditions needed to produce a wine of fine quality.

ASSEMBLAGE
Rosé Millésimé 2005 is obtained by adding pinot noir vinified as a red wine to the assemblage. The Rosé Millésimé is made up of a majority of pinot noir from the Montagne de Reims and chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. Several crus are blended, including those from the villages of Avize, Chouilly, Mareuil sur Aÿ, Verzy, Verzenay, Avenay, Vertus and Trépail. 70% pinot noir 30% chardonnay

AGEING
It is in the quiet, dark Henriot cellars in Reims that the bottles of Rosé Millésimé 2005 remain for at least 5 to 6 years.

Vintage 2005

The 2005 vintage was a year of marked contrasts between seasons and regions. Following a fairly harsh winter, 2005 had a mild spring with relatively warm temperatures all year long. There was above average sunshine and a slight water deficit, as had been the case throughout the dry cycle of 2005/2004 and 2003. The heat and humidity in July produced larger grapes and bunches, rather unusually for the Champagne region, while the cooler weather in August, followed by a very sunny month of September, led to favourable ripening in spite of heavy parasite pressure. The harvest dates were “typical” of those of the decade: September 12th for Chardonnays and the following day for Pinots Noirs.
