Very pale straw with a pale lime green rim. An enticingly fresh and fragrant lift – a citrus edge, leaning towards lime/lime leaf in tandem with Granny Smith apple and honeydew granita.

Background complexing aromas of creamy Greek yoghurt/ tzatziki and lanolin, no doubt arising from courting yeast lees for eight months in French barriques.

And, although one out of every two of these barriques is new, the impact of oak is barely noticeabl...

Wine Information

Across South Australia’s premium growing regions, winter and early spring rainfall were close to the long-term average. From August, conditions became significantly drier with only a few
light spring showers recorded. Record low rainfall was recorded from September to March stretching water supplies. Warm and dry conditions encouraged early flowering and fruit-set, with rapid canopy growth. Early summer temperatures dropped

Written Notes

The trio of Chardonnays (Yattarna, Reserve Bin A and Bin 311) always
engenders much debate, but one can always rely on Yattarna offering elegance
and finesse, deceptive concentration, immaculate balance and a lingering
persistence. This has all of that. This time, the difference between the Bin
A and the Yattarna is not so much wild child and school prefect; it is more
Hunter Thompson and Shakespeare.

A blend of regions - Tasmania, Adelaide Hills and Tumbarumba - which has
seen 8 months in French oak barriques, 50% new, the oak is evident but
barely. It is blissfully integrated. Notes of lemon cream pie, citrus,
florals and with such a seductive texture. Complex. A wonderful wine.

Another in a long line of superb Yattarnas, this one might take line
honours. I suspect we might have to go back to 2008 to find one this good.

Light, green yellow colour. Extremely intense nose with toasty and herbaceous aromas combined with refined yellow fruit aromas and seductive spices. The nose reminds of Montrachets. The palate is crisp and lively with delicious toastiness combined with fresh ripe fruit flavours and spices. Long and lingering finish is intense and leaves behind seductive minty flavours. Absolutely beautiful chardonnay that challenges the best white burgundies. Drinks well already but will keep for lifetime under the screwcap. Decant for 2 hours and serve at 12-14°C with finest fish and lobster dishes. JL 96p (12/2020)

Pale lemon yellow. Apples, minerals, citrus, some vanilla and light gunpowder note nose. Fresh acidity, apples, elegant and nuanced, bright and fresh, some lemons, smoother texture, detailed, long. Refreshing finish. Borderline mouthwatering. 95

Tasmania, Tumbarumba, Adelaide Hills. TA 7.2 g/l, pH 3.22. Eight months in French oak barriques (50% new, 32% one-year-old, 18% seasoned). 44% Tasmania, and more new oak than Reserve Bin A this year. Tasmania, Tumbarumba and the Adelaide Hills all experienced a wet winter with cool conditions extending into early spring. With healthy soil moisture profiles, shoot thinning was necessary to control vigour and yield in some vineyards. The latter part of the growing season was also similar across all three regions, with generally mild weather extending hang time before harvest. There were few extreme weather events, with no recorded heatwaves. Quality was excellent, with strong varietal and regional characters emerging. Conditions for harvest were ideal, with excellent flavours and striking natural acidity. A memorable vintage for Chardonnay.
Restrained and bone dry on the end. More ambitious than Bin 311 with vibrancy and lime and minerals on the end, though needs a little softening and rounding in bottle. They are pouring 15- and 16-year-old magnums of Yattarna which are looking good, apparently.

Pale colour. Intense pure lemon, grapefruit, stone fruit aromas with flinty herb garden complexity. Well concentrated with lovely pure lemon, grapefruit, nectarine flavours, supple chalky textures and integrated mineral acidity. Superb mid palate creaminess followed by slinky minerally finish. A refined sophisticated style with superb detail, richness, density and vinosity. Grand Cru Australian Chardonnay without a doubt.
