R.D. (Recently Disgorged) is the result of a great vision of Madame Bollinger, R.D. is a magnification of the very best that the Champagne region’s terroir has to offer. R.D. starts as a Grande Année, the prestige cuvée of Bollinger, and is allowed to mature for an extra 8 to 20 years, sometimes more. This special aging allows the wine to maintain a unique combination of freshness and vivacity, while developing delicate and complex aromas. The...
R.D. stands for Récemment Dégorgé, recently disgorged: Madame Bollinger created this legendary vintage in 1961, giving the world the opportunity to taste a champagne aged on lees for an exceptionally long time. Her great vision? Enabling knowledgeable wine connoisseurs to share a very special moment, when very recently disgorged wine is as fresh and aromatic as ever. It was a small revolution in the world of champagne… The daring Bollinger R.D...
For several years the best Champagne I'd drunk. The critics are unanimous—this is a great vintage for Bollinger. Some bottles with the Année Rare label have been too young and closed. The wine is best appreciated two or three years after being disgorged, when its classic hazelnut tones and rich flavor of truffles, cheese, and chocolate appear more clearly in the relatively hard and acidic wine. The aftertaste is majestic, with layers of nut and leather aromas.
A magnum of 1975 Bollinger RD was super sweet in its aromatics with a candy corn-like complexity. Thick, lush, creamy and sweet, the Bolly had a good finish and was a better show than many expected. There was nice sprite to its personality and tasty sasparilla flavors. The ’75 still had good bones.
Yet another great example of the true potential of the 1975 vintage. The quality of the vintage is quite inconsistent, but the best champagnes have aged in a pleasingly graceful fashion and positively slowly. Golden deep and beautiful colour. Still rich with tiny bubbles. A very rich and toasty nose with aromas of nuts, dried fruits and a hint of mushroom. The elegant nose is in harmony with the taste. A good strong backbone and a perfect intensity of fruitiness. Mousse is delicate and soft in mouth. The long and pleasant brioche-like aftertaste crowns this wine. A ripe and mature wine that will remain charming for a long time.
