The Story

This extraordinarily dense wine, produced by the Chateau du Vosne Romanée, is distributed exclusively by Bouchard Pere & Fils, and has astonishing concentration and abundant black fruit notes accompanying the amazing nose. It is a pleasure to see the potential of this piece of property realized. Clive Coates raves about this wine: "Domaine du Chateau de Vosne Romanée. Huge colour. Marvellous, super-concentrated essence of wine on the nose. This is absolutely brilliant.

Vintage 1995

A small crop of high quality for long ageing. As in 1985, the acidity in the white wines is hidden behind the ripe fruit.

An early frost and cool June weather severely reduced the size of the 1995 crop. July and August were fine, dry and warm, but cooler conditions arrived in September, bringing showers and overcast skies. Fortunately the rains were more spread out and did not do as much damage as in 1994. The harvest took place in cooler but dry weather. Careful selection was essential. The 1995 wines showed great potential in barrel, the silky tannins and fine acidity giving the wines a soft mouthfeel.

Very attractive white wines, with creamy structure balanced by fine-tuned acidity.

Written Notes

The nose is just beginning to reveal the barest trace of secondary aromas with subtle nuances of violets, earth, spice, smoke and hints of game that precede robust, structured and very dense, almost robust flavors that deliver outstanding length. There is not the finesse and almost perfect balance of the '96 but there is much more density and mid-palate sap plus a finishing note of chocolate. This is still relatively young and should last for 30+ years.
