Written Notes

The 2020 Petrus presents a deep, intense ruby color with a vibrant, youthful edge. On the nose, it offers an alluring bouquet of ripe blackberries, cassis, and dark plums, intertwined with sophisticated notes of truffle, mocha, and a hint of violet.

On the palate, it is full-bodied and opulent, with velvety tannins and a remarkably smooth texture. Flavors of concentrated dark fruit are layered with nuances of dark chocolate, espresso, and subtle spice. The wine’s precise acidity provides a perfect balance and enhances its depth and complexity.

The finish is exceptionally long and elegant, leaving a lasting impression of refined fruit and earthy undertones. The 2020 Petrus is a remarkable vintage with exceptional potential, promising both immediate pleasure and impressive aging prospects.

  • 98p

Petrus 2020/ Very intense, pure and layered – fine wood and gentle toast showing blackberry, raspberry, cassis, truffle and meaty notes. Impressive power with great elegance and an immense tannic backbone, very powdery and grainy with a chewy quality, absolutely no hard edges, refreshing and mouth coating with fine dark chocolate praline, black cherry and abundant fruit flavours followed by an extremely long, nuanced and pure finish.

2020 Petrus 99p
Tasted in November 2021. Barrel sample. Rather elegant than powerful wine. Still, with a unique complexity, velvety, fantastic structure, sophisticated touch, multilayered, and breathtaking length.

  • 99p

Château Pétrus 2020 Barrel Sample (Pomerol); 98–100 points. Spice and black fruit aromas shine in this powerful wine. The density of the texture and the concentrated fruits are seamless in their power. Yet, at the same time, the wine has refreshing acidity at the end that puts everything on a pedestal. It is the summation of Pétrus.
