The Story

Redoma Reserva is made with grapes from ancient 80 years old vines, planted at an altitude of 600 metres in mica schist soils. Since its creation in 1995, the main aim of producing this wine has been to express the character of the Douro old vineyards. At the end of the ageing period, the best barrels are selected, considering their minerality, complexity and ageing potential and not necessarily those with the most expressive aromas.

Vintage 2019

2019 was a year to celebrate the Douro’s remarkably resilient grape varieties in an unusually dry year. Our ability to closely monitor their varying maturation cycles and adjust our picking schedule accordingly meant we were able to deliver the best expression of the different varieties.

Written Notes

The Redoma Reserva Branco 2019 fermented spontaneously in French oak barrels where it also underwent partial malolactic fermentation and a 10-month-long maturation period. Having fermented and aged in barrels on its fine lees, this Redoma Reserva boasts flawless structure, which in combination with its acidity, makes for a beautifully elegant and multifaceted wine. Distinct floral aromas harmonise beautifully with the oak, leading to a vibrant and electric palate and lastly, a lingering and subtly saline finish.

The 2019 viticultural year was marked by dry weather. Spring began with high temperatures, which subsequently dropped and remained low during the entire summer. Some rainfall occurred at just the right point of the vines’ growth phase, and flowering took place in excellent weather conditions, leading to medium to high yields with healthy berries. The mild days and cool nights of the month of August allowed the fruit to ripen slowly and harmoniously.

The peak harvesting period took place during the week of 8 - 15 September, with the harvest ending on 1 October with the red grape varieties from the high-lying vineyard sites.

We consider 2019 to be an exceptional vintage for the “DO Douro” appellation, with a perfect balance between the natural acidity and sugar levels of the musts. This will result in white wines of great purity .

This is a white with the complexity and density of a grand cru Burgundy with good lemon, pineapple and crushed-stone character. It’s full-bodied with a tight palate and beautiful length and focus. Creamy texture. it goes on for minutes. Drink or hold.
