The Château Pétrus 2025 is howcasing why this Pomerol icon remains one of the world's most collected wines. Cultivated on the famous, iron-rich blue clay (argile bleue) of the Pomerol plateau, this 100% Merlot thrived extraordinarily under the unique conditions of the 2025 growing season, during which hot weather led to low yields but an incredible concentration of fruit.

Pouring an intense, deeply concentrated ruby-purple hue with a brilli...

Pétrus Vintage Comparative Analysis: 2020–2025

The 2020 through 2025 stretch at Pétrus offers a remarkable study in how Pomerol’s premier 100% Merlot estate responds to volatile climatic shifts. Centered on its famous buttonhole of smectite blue clay, Pétrus leverages its unique subsoil to retain moisture during drought years while offering vital drainage during rainy seasons, maintaining an unyielding standard across warm, cool, and challe...

Vintage 2025

The 2025 vintage reveals the full ability of the great terroirs of Pomerol and Saint-Émilion to adapt to extreme climatic conditions. Marked by an early and sunny spring followed by a particularly dry summer, the year gave rise to small, naturally concentrated berries, resulting in wines that are deep, precise, and balanced.

Thanks to the regulating role of the clay soils of Pomerol and the limestone terroirs of Saint-Émilion, ripeness was ...

Petrus: 100% Merlot, 20 hl/ha. Dense and concentrated, yet graceful with finesse. Intense cherries on the nose and a touch of minerality on the palate. Sensual with exceptional depth, mid-palate, and a long, silky finish. Liquid cashmere once again. I am speechless again! 99-100p.

  • 100p

Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Opulent nose with ripe fruit, black cherries and ripe plums, hints of blackberries but also hints of wild strawberries and black truffles, Kampot pepper, hints of violets in the background. Inside Information

Pétrus Price Developments & Valuation (2020–2025 Vintages)

Pétrus pricing is famously driven by a combination of critical scores, solar vintage hype, and release timing during broader Bordeaux En Primeur cycles. While most Bordeaux Grand Crus suffered a market cooling across 2023 and 2024, Pétrus maintained high trade secondary premiums relative to release prices.

Pricing across the 2020 to 2025 Pétrus vintages reflects a sharp divergence between high-scoring solar benchmark years and lighter, cooler classical harvests. Driven by universal acclaim and low yields, the iconic 2022 vintage commands the peak market value at $7,000–$7,800, followed by high demand for early futures of the scarce 2025 vintage ($6,500–$7,500) and steady value retention for the highly rated 2020 ($4,700–$5,800). Conversely, balanced and balanced-to-cooler years like 2023 ($4,200–$4,800) and 2024 ($3,800–$4,500) offer lower entry points relative to initial release costs, while the light, classic 2021 vintage remains the most affordable entry into modern Pétrus at $3,600–$4,200.

Market Key Takeaways

The "100-Point" Premium (2022 & 2025)

Hot, low-yielding solar vintages command immediate 60%–100% secondary trade premiums upon delivery. The 2022vintage trades as the single most expensive bottling in this six-year block due to its legendary 100-point critical consensus. Early indicators for 2025 suggest similar collector appetite driven by ultra-low yields (~20 hl/ha).

The Classical / Cooler Discount (2021 & 2024)

Cooler seasons like 2021 and 2024 deliver the most "accessible" entry points to Pétrus. While offering incredible aromatic finesse, these vintages lack the dense structure favored by pure investment buyers, keeping secondary prices significantly closer to initial release numbers.
