The Story

The winery's historic Gaia & Rey is a wine that not only reshaped the legacy of the house itself, but also redefined Piedmont as one of the truly great winemaking regions of the world. Named after Lucia and Angelo Gaja's daughter, Gaia Gaja, and Angelo Gaja's grandmother Clotilde Rey (the family's great matriarch and one of its most forward-thinking visionaries), Gaia & Rey was first bottled in 1983 and was first released the following year.

Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is yellow and medium. On the nose it is open, intense, youthful, complex, refined, fresh and seductive. The taste is fresh, round, harmonious, elegant, toasty, vivid, refined, and dry, and average in acidity, full-bodied, with perfectly balanced, complex, well-structured, well-integrated, concentrated structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has buttery, mineral, tropical fruits, citrus, mint and toasty flavours. The finish is long, lingering and vibrant. This wine is sophisticated, fine and outstanding. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 1-5 years and decant at least 1h before tasting.
