Written Notes

Climate conditions in the 1970s meant that grapes ripened successfully only two or three years out of ten. 1974 had a long, snowy winter and a late spring. This was followed by a dry and hot summer and a fine autumn, so it had all the ingredients to be good; but unlike 1971 and 1975, the 1974 was considered a good vintage rather than a great one.
