Vintage 2021

2021 Barossa Valley Vintage Report

Written Notes

The 2021 Penfolds Bin 704 Cabernet Sauvignon: On the nose, the wine bursts with aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, and dark cherries, layered with notes of cedar, crushed herbs, and dried tobacco. Subtle hints of graphite, cocoa, and baking spices emerge, adding depth and intrigue.

The palate is bold and well-structured, offering a symphony of flavors. Ripe blackberries and plum dominate, supported by undertones of dark chocolate, espresso, and a touch of sweet vanilla from well-integrated oak. The tannins are finely grained yet firm, providing a backbone of structure and elegance. A fresh line of acidity keeps the wine vibrant, ensuring harmony and poise.

The finish is long and refined, leaving lingering impressions of dark fruit, spice, and a touch of minerality. This is a sophisticated Cabernet that captures the essence of its Napa Valley origins while showcasing Penfolds’ unmistakable style. Approachable now, but with excellent aging potential.
