The Grange La Chapelle 2022 is a monumental wine that manages to harmonize the raw power of the Barossa with the granite-driven soul of the Hill of Hermitage. In the glass, it is a dense, impenetrable purple. The nose is a complex dialogue: one moment you find the dark chocolate, soy, and coal dust of Grange, and the next, it pivots to the violets, cracked black pepper, and smoked charcuterie of La Chapelle.
On the palate, the wine is incredibly seamless. It possesses the "iron-fist-in-a-velvet-glove" structure of Grange, but the texture is noticeably more fine-grained and "vertical" due to the Hermitage component. Flavors of satsuma plum, blackberry, and espresso are framed by a striking mineral tension and a saltiness that lingers on the finish. It is a vinous "super-blend" that feels both familiar and entirely new.
