From Bolgheri (have always felt a distant connection to this wine as years ago, I was visiting Gaja in Piedmont with a chef – we’d been doing food and wine presentations in Sri Lanka and took a detour during a break. The chef had no sense of time at all and despite my pleadings, we rocked up over an hour late – mortifying. Angelo was sitting on the hood of his car, waiting for us – even more mortifying. He said hi and goodbye and rushed off as he had to get down to Tuscany to sign the contract for a vineyard he was buying there. All I could think of was, as he is known to drive like a maniac normally, please please do not kill yourself. I did not want any responsibility for that. Fortunately, it all went well, vineyard securely purchased and we had a brilliant visit).
This was ripe and biscuity. Choc/cherry notes. A lovely plushness. This is balanced, ripe, alluring and ever so appealing. Supple and sensual with very fine tannins. Nice length and a great future. Absolutely love this.
