The 2020 Gaja Conteisa Barolo is a refined and youthful expression of one of Barolo’s more approachable crus, showcasing the finesse and vibrancy of the vintage with typical Nebbiolo elegance. On the nose, it offers bright aromas of red cherry, cranberry, and wild strawberry, mingling with delicate floral notes of rose and violet, alongside hints of crushed herbs and a subtle touch of earthiness. The bouquet is fresh and inviting, emphasizing clarity and purity.
On the palate, Conteisa 2020 is medium-bodied with a sleek and silky texture. The tannins are well-integrated, fine-grained, and supportive without overwhelming the fruit. Flavors of ripe red berries, pomegranate, and a whisper of licorice unfold gracefully, balanced by lively acidity that brings energy and brightness to the wine. Mid-palate notes of minerality—wet stone and chalk—add dimension and lift.
While not as dense or powerful as some of Gaja’s more illustrious Barolo crus, this wine impresses with its balance, freshness, and accessibility. The finish is clean and moderately persistent, leaving delicate echoes of red fruit and floral nuances.
