Kesti kymmenen vuotta ensimmäisen kokeellisen Grangen valmistuksesta ennen kuin viini hyväksyttiin yleisesti ja ennakkoluulot karisivat. Vuonna 1949 nuori australialainen, Penfoldsissa toiminut viininvalmistaja, Max Schubert, lähetettiin Espanjan Jereziin opiskelemaan sherryn valmistusta.
